The Process
We carefully disassemble each barrel to reveal it's inner beauty for the first time. At this point, since no two barrels are alike, a new design idea begins to evolve based on the size, color & shape of the oak staves from each barrel. Each handcrafted piece of furniture or accessory is assembled with waterproof glue and epoxy coated screws. It is then sanded and several coats of spar polyurethane finish are applied to bring out the rich colors of the wine tinted oak. Preserving the original character of the barrel is a major design element of each piece.
Every effort is made to leave as many of the original markings & nail holes that have occurred during the barrel's first life. This, we feel, adds to the uniqueness of each design & part of each barrel's new life. Enjoy!
